The state of Arizona is on the brink of charging people close to Trump over the 2020 election interference case. Arizona's Attorney General Kris Mayes is behind the latest move, which appears to name key figures like Trump's former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and Trump's attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and John Eastman.
It is not clear whether AG Mayes is considering charges against individuals close to Trump's national campaign, or whether she will focus on Arizona GOP officials and activists who aided Trump's attempt to overthrow the state's presidential results. What is known, is that prosecutors have now issued several grand jury subpoenas against people connected to the case.
The efforts to steal the election include the infamous fake slate of electors. GOP chairwoman Kelli Ward, and state senators Anthony Kern and Jake Hoffman are among the fake electors who tried to undo Joe Biden's win in Arizona.
Kelli Ward and other false Arizona electors also joined a late-2020 lawsuit which
looked to pressure then-VP Mike Pence to block Joe Biden's victory on January 6, 2021, sending the election back to the states.
As the investigation heats up, Arizona could become the next state to indict
the former president, rounding the total indictments against Trump to five. But whether that will happen before the November election is still unclear.
Should Arizona Indict Trump?
Absolutely.
Not necessary.
Mixed feelings!
